Walkin the Cliff

Today was one of those perfect Fall days (a little warm for my taste, but whatev...) about 70 degrees and not a cloud in the sky.  We decided to head back into Newport and tackle the Cliff Walk.  The Cliff Walk is a 3.5 mile trail along the Newport coastline and some of the city's most famous historic mansions also happen to be along the way. I have to say that the homes, views and weather made for a perfect morning walk.

These are the "40 Steps" which I read somewhere had significance, but I can't remember what it was or where I read it (sucks to be old)....I think it had to do with 40 sailors lost at sea, or some shizzle like that.  Google it yourself, if you're that interested!!
This (I'm pretty sure) is The Breakers, which was the Vanderbilts little pad.  They always have the best stuff.

This little "I just don't fit in" structure is a Chinese Tea House built for poor Mrs Vanderbilt.  As Mr. B always says, "Money can't buy you taste."  He's right, in this case.

And, just to prove that I actually do come on these vacations......

So....if I ever lived in Newport (which is not actually a possibility) I would almost certainly walk the Cliff Walk on a regular basis (if I could just get rid of all of the tourists!!)
